A top executive at vegan food company Beyond Meat was suspended after he was accused of taking a bite out of a man’s nose outside a University of Arkansas football game over the weekend.
Chief Operating Officer Doug Ramsey was suspended immediately after the 53-year old allegedly punched and chomped down on a victim’s nose, the company said in a statement Tuesday. Ramsey was arrested Saturday for the attack, which left the victim with the flesh taken off the tip of his nose, KNWA-TV reported, citing a police document.
Ramsey is also accused of threatening to kill the man in the dispute, which broke out while they were leaving a parking garage in their cars following the Arkansas Razorbacks’ win over Missouri State Saturday night.
Ramsey joined the vegan company after he was with Tyson Foods for 30 years.
In announcing Ramsey’s hire last year, Beyond Meat Founder and CEO Ethan Brown said he “could not be more thrilled” to bring on the experienced executive.
Brown also said Ramsey brings “a proven track record of impressive operational excellence in the protein industry that our global partners, customers, and consumers expect and deserve.”
The company has struggled mightily this year, according to CNBC. The company’s stock has dropped 75% that has brought its market down to $1.02 billion. Three years ago, the company was worth $13.4 billion, CNBC reported.
Ramsey was charged with terroristic threatening and third-degree battery.
