Mayor Adams — you’re the one playing politics with migrants

Mayor Eric Adams blasts GOP governors for “playing politics” by shipping migrants to New York and elsewhere — yet he refuses to criticize fellow Democrats for doing the same, or President Joe Biden for waving migrants in. Who’s the one “playing politics,” Mr. Mayor?

“For [Florida’s] governor to send immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, without any coordination, is just creating a real crisis,” fumes Adams, calling Ron DeSantis’ move a “political ploy.” The Republican Party has “created a blueprint that all of them are starting to follow.”

Adams also slams Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as “anti-American” for busing migrants here. Abbott & Co. think “the politics of treating people in an inhumane manner . . . is the best way to handle” the migrant crisis, he charged Sunday.

Yet Hizzoner won’t say boo about Biden flying migrants to New York, as The Post has documented. Or criticize private charities and churches, like those in San Antonio, Texas, that are paying migrants’ bus fare to come here.

Last week, El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser actually thanked Adams for agreeing to “welcome” as many as 200 migrants a day from his town. Why blast Abbott for sending migrants but make a deal with Leeser to accept them? One’s a Republican; the other, a Democrat.

Hizzoner’s spokesman denies Adams made such a deal. Yet the mayor has yet to call out Leeser, who started busing migrants here last month. Instead, he brags about how he’s been “able to communicate” with him. Asked if legal action he’s eyeing against Texas would also target El Paso, Adams fudged: “We’re looking at all our legal options.”

Adams won’t even mildly attack Biden for his open-border policies, which created the migrant nightmare. A record 4 million have entered since Biden took office and reversed every Trump border-control measure.

Abbott says Adams “is flat-out lying and selectively attacking Texas’ busing operation, while conveniently ignoring migrants” bused in by Leeser and flown in by Biden. He also notes that migrants on Texas’ buses “willingly” choose to go to New York, get plenty of food and water and can “disembark” at stops along the way.

“Instead of complaining about a couple thousand migrants being bused into his self-declared sanctuary city and using these migrants for political attacks, Mayor Adams should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border,” rails Abbott.

Meanwhile, self-declared “sanctuaries” — Chicago, Martha’s Vineyard — are shipping out migrants soon after they arrive. That’s prompted ex-Gov. David Paterson (D) to recall how “progressives” during the “integration movement” didn’t want blacks and Hispanics in their neighborhoods.

At least Adams admits there’s a “crisis.” And, yes, there’s a lot of politics surrounding it. But most of it is coming from Democrats — including Hizzoner himself.
