Spot the hidden word in this optical illusion
This one puts new meaning on the phrase “read my lips.”
Viewers are bruising their noodles trying to solve this Wordle-esque optical illusion, in which the goal is identify the hidden word within the face, as seen in this video with 1.5 million views on TikTok.
“This picture is not what you think it is,” TikTok user @pasillusion challenges in the clip of the trippy facial recognition exercise.

In this instance, the sketchy black-and-white illustration seems to depict a half-finished visage with only the eyes, nose, mouth, chin and no outline of the head. However, there’s also “a hidden four-letter word in this image,” @pasillusion explains in the aforementioned clip.
Needless to say, the unorthodox word search flummoxed many social media users with one writing, “I don’t see it guy.”
“I see nothing,” spluttered another perplexed puzzler, while one flabbergasted viewer said, “I thought it said my name.”
Thankfully, @pasillusion provided a handy tip for the perennially stumped: users need to simply turn their phone to left, whereupon the face spells out — somewhat fittingly — the word “liar” in cursive.
Specifically, the eyes comprise the “L,” the nose makes up the “i,” the mouth constitutes the “a” while the “r” is formed by the gap between the chin and the shoulder.
Originally created by New York artist Paul Agule in 1987, the image is an ambigram, a type of optical illusion that depicts more than what initially meets the eye.
This isn’t the first optical illusion to depict two images simultaneously. This brain teaser is either g-rated or X-rated depending on which image the viewer sees first.
