‘American Horror Story: NYC’: 5 Things You Missed in Episodes 1 and 2

Big Daddy isn’t the only killer on the loose this season. There’s also the disease that Dr. Hannah Wells (Billie Lourd) is tracking. In the first two episodes, traces of this possible — and disturbingly relatable — epidemic come up again and again. First, there are the infected deer that Dr. Wells insist be killed before they can infect anyone else. Then there are the patients who have Kaposi’s sarcoma as well as traces of Cryptosporidium.
These’s aren’t made-up medical terms for television. Cryptosporidium is a diarrheal disease caused by the protozoan parasite. But more importantly for the purposes of this show, it can be transmitted from hosts to humans. It can cause gastrological problems as well as a cough. Then there’s Kaposi’s sarcoma, a type of cancer that forms in the lining of blood and lymph vessels. It causes lesions to grow in the skin, lymph nodes, and internal organs, which would explain is gross marks on that deer. Both are fairly rare in developed countries. We’re going to take a wild guess and say all these disjointed symptoms are connected to one looming catastrophe that only Billie Lourd understands.
