Ed Sheeran on why he performed at Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s wedding

You’d have to be a pretty important individual to have Ed Sheeran sing at your wedding.

So it was no surprise Patriots owner Robert Kraft, 81, and his new bride Dr. Dana Blumberg, 47, were treated to live vocals from the four-time Grammy Award winner on their big day.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s “The Morning Mash Up,” Sheeran explained why he decided to perform at the star-studded celebration in lower Manhattan’s Hall des Lumières on Oct. 14.

“Well, it was mad ’cause it was ‘Perfect,’ and ‘Perfect’ is the one that everyone always wants for their first dance, but I’ve never done it before,” Sheeran told the hosts.

“So I’m sort of looking at them dancing and I’m like, ‘Oh, this is the first time I’ve actually done this for a first dance.’ You would just assume that I’ve done it lots of times,” the singer added.

Sheeran also sang a “Candle in the Wind” duet with Elton John at the event, before other performers, including rapper Meek Mill, took to the stage. Grandmaster Flash DJ’d the event and played the hora before it all turned into a big dance party.

The singer said he shares a “lovely relationship” with Kraft, which spans back to his first-ever arena gig across the pond in 2013.

“I mean, he was my first stadium that I played in the US ever,” Sheeran said, referring to the Kraft-owned Gillette Stadium. “I’ve always had a lovely relationship with him. He’s super sweet.”

Sheeran was quick to point out that his wedding performance was very much a rare occasion.

“I don’t really play a lot of weddings,” the “Shape of You” hitmaker said. “I’m always either playing a gig on a Saturday or I’m with my family on a Saturday, but [Kraft’s wedding] was on a Friday night and here we are.”

Guests at the extravagant bash included former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, singer Jon Bon Jovi, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, former quarterback Drew Bledsoe, and other Patriots alums.

While Brady attended the lavish affair — sans wife Gisele Bündchen — Bill Belichick, 70, skipped on the star-studded nuptials.
