Looks like fans will soon be able to get their much-awaited Joni Mitchell fix afterall.
According to her close pal and country music superstar Brandi Carlile, the iconic 78-year-old musician is set to perform next year at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington.
Appearing on “The Daily Show” Wednesday, Carlile said Mitchell wanted “to play again” after the pair performed together at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island.
“I can’t believe it’s happening, but it’s happening,” Carlile added. “And she is going to crush it.”
Mitchell is scheduled to join “The Joke” hitmaker at the “Echoes Through the Canyon” show on June 10. Carlile will perform the day before, on June 9.
Mitchell’s performance at the Newport Folk Festival marked her first show in public in over 23 years. Her upcoming gig will be her first headlining act in over two decades.
“After Newport, Joni said ‘I want to do another show.’ She said ‘I want to play again,’” Carlile told host Trevor Noah.
“No one’s been able to buy a ticket to see Joni Mitchell play in 20 years. So this is enormous, and she’s so excited because it’s close to Canada.”
At Newport, Mitchell treated die-hard fans to more than a dozen of her hit tracks, including, “A Case of You,” “Both Sides Now,” and “The Circle Game.”
Speaking after her unforgettable set, Carlile said the pair didn’t sleep that night.
“We stayed up until the sun came up. Joni, flat out, loves to perform and she’s awesome at it,” Carlile recalled.
Mitchell has received nine Grammy Awards, including a lifetime achievement award in 2002. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
She has kept somewhat of a low profile since suffering a debilitating brain aneurysm in 2015 that temporarily left her unable to walk or talk.
