‘The View’ Debates Who’s To Blame for Inflation: “Corporations” or “Democrats” Who “Control Everything”?

Alyssa Farah Griffin got into it with her fellow co-hosts during today’s episode of The View while discussing inflation. While the sole conservative voice at the table attempted to argue that nothing was being done about the issue, the rest of the panel established their thoughts behind the “real culprit” of inflation: corporations.
Commenting on a video of Rep. Katie Porter where she pointed out that corporate profits have been the biggest driver of inflation during the pandemic, Griffin said, “Blame whoever you want whether it’s corporations or Republicans, Democrats control everything and real Americans are struggling right now.”
The former White House staffer opened up about not being able to heat or cool her house as much as her family would have liked when she was growing up because they couldn’t afford it. She noted a statistic she came across stating that “Americans are going to see up to $900 annually more in their fuel prices to heat their homes this winter.”
Meanwhile, Sunny Hostin pointed out that “Democrats don’t control corporations,” before telling her co-host, “What generally happens when Republicans get into office, they are controlled by corporations and they give corporate tax breaks [and] corporations never pay their fair share.”
Griffin went on to talk about the Inflation Reduction Act, which was passed by Democrats earlier this year, but said we are now “seeing it raises taxes and it hasn’t decreased inflation.” On the other end of the table, Whoopi Goldberg chimed in, saying, “Inflation is not going to decrease no matter what you do until [corporations] decide that they’re going to take less. And that is a huge problem.”
Regarding Nancy Pelosi’s comments on inflation being a global phenomenon, Griffin said, “That doesn’t help people who can’t pay their bills.” However, Goldberg took the opportunity to remind her co-host where she comes from and what she learned from it.
“I come from the projects. We didn’t have a lot of control about anything,” Goldberg said while Griffin simply stared on. “But one thing we always understood is when we were getting screwed by the bigger parties. And that’s what’s happening now. And it’s happening to poor white people, poor Black people, poor Asian people, it’s happening to everybody.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
