Britney Spears reflects on niece Maddie’s near-fatal ATV accident

Britney Spears “lost her mind” when she thought her niece Maddie died in her 2017 near-fatal ATV accident.
After Jamie Lynn Spears’ then-8-year-old daughter was submerged in a pond for two minutes while strapped into the vehicle, Britney heard the news from her mother, Lynne Spears.
“She said Jamie Lynn said something happened … SILENCE … SILENCE … SILENCE !!!’ the Princess of Pop, 40, wrote via Twitter on Thursday.
“She wouldn’t tell me,” the songwriter continued. “then she said it … she stopped breathing … we lost her!!!”
Britney assumed at the time that Maddie had died and subsequently “started throwing things.”
She recalled, “My mind was completely and absolutely gone … I lost my mind at that moment.”
After the “Gimme More” singer’s brother, Bryan Spears, told her to “control” herself, Britney “stood there crying” until finding out a few minutes later that Maddie had “opened her eyes [and] could see.”
The Grammy winner noted, “Death is a mystery … We don’t understand it… My mind couldn’t process it.”
Every year since the scare, Jamie Lynn has honored Maddie’s miraculous recovery with a social media tribute.
“I had nothing when I thought I lost my baby girl, so my faith was literally all I had left to cling to,” the “Sweet Magnolias” star told her Instagram followers in January.
“I thank God everyday [sic] for the extraordinary medical professionals, all the prayer warriors, and the countless angels in heaven, and on earth who made our miracle possible.”
When the actress published her “Things I Should Have Said” memoir that same month, she described how “eerily blue” Maddie was after being pulled from the pond and failing to respond to CPR.
The now-14-year-old had her last rites read at the hospital, the “Zoey 101” alum recalled, noting that she was put into a medically induced coma to help with her healing.
The traumatic event gave Jamie Lynn “gratitude,” she told People in January.
“When you have the worst thing you can think of in your life happen to you, it makes you look at everything else differently,” the former Nickelodeon star explained at the time.
