Trevor Noah bids farewell to ‘Daily Show’

Trevor Noah’s run at “The Daily Show” has come to an end.

The South African comedian bid adieu to the late-night show he has hosted since 2015.

The final show, which aired Thursday evening, featured a “Farewell to Trevor” from “The Daily Show” correspondents including Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Roy Wood Jr, Dulcé Sloan, and contributor Jordan Klepper.

After the 25-minute roast session, Noah shared his gratitude for the audience who tuned in for the past seven years.

“Honestly, most importantly, I’m grateful to you (the fans), every single one of you, I am so grateful.”

Noah, who first joined the crew as a contributor in 2014, recalled the small audiences at the beginning of his hosting days when he succeeded Jon Stewart behind the news desk.

“I remember when we started the show we couldn’t get enough people to fill the audience. Now I look at this now, I don’t take it for granted ever,” Noah said. “Every seat that has been filled to watch something I am doing. I always appreciate it.”

Throughout the show, there was only laughter and smiles. Each segment the correspondents presented featured roasts and laughs at Noah’s expense sharing favorite moments about the comedian and the relationships made in the show.

Noah became teary-eyed at the show’s end when he thanked the black women in his life.

“I’ve often been credited with having these grand ideas and people always go oh Trevor your so smart. Who do you think teaches me, who has shaped me, formed me, nourished me? From my mom my grandma my aunt, I always tell people, if you truly want to learn about America talk to black women. Unlike everyone else black women can’t afford to F–k around and find out.”

Noah also shared his gratitude to the people who critiqued him, the ones that pointed out things they didn’t like “even the people who hate-watch, we still got the ratings, thank you.”

“The Daily Show” will return to filming in January, where it already has an A-list cast of guest hosts lined up to replace Noah including “SNL” alum Leslie Jones, comedian Chelsea Handler and former US Senator Al Franken.

Noah has not indicated what he will be doing next but will be taking some time to spend with loved ones and see the world.

“This is a moment where I’ll be making time for family, for friends, to travel a little bit more,” Noah told Daily Show correspondent Desi Lydic. “I’m not leaving for a movie, I’m not leaving for another show, I don’t have anything lined up for at the moment.”

Noah took a final sip from his mug and placed it under his desk as the camera panned to a cheering audience.
