Mets planning to non-tender Dominic Smith after struggles

The Mets are giving up on Dominic Smith.
The team plans to non-tender him before Friday night’s deadline, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.
After tantalizing seasons in 2019 and 2020, the first baseman appeared to be a big part of the Mets’ future. However, he struggled in 2021 and bounced between Syracuse and Flushing last season.

Smith, 27, had two years of arbitration left. The decision to move on from Smith seemed likely when they opted to pick up Daniel Vogelbach’s option.
