Orange County NY to get first snowfall of season Tuesday night

The first snowflakes of the season for New York City’s northern suburbs are expected to fall Tuesday night with as much as two inches of accumulation possible.

The expected snowfall prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for Orange County where “wintery precipitation” may arrive by Tuesday evening’s rush-hour commute.

The precipitation will likely start as rain before changing over to the white stuff “as the sun goes down overnight,” Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Braud told The Post.

The snow “will probably linger to the morning hours on Wednesday on your morning commute as well,” Braud said.

Any snow accumulations will be unseasonably early for the area. Much of the surrounding areas typically get their first snowfall in early to mid December, Braud said. Central Park typically sees its first flakes around Dec. 15.

The National Weather Service predicted up to two inches of snow for Orange County with an inch of less in the Lower Hudson Valley.

However, Braud said he doesn’t believe there will be much if any accumulation in Orange County.

“Will they see measurable snow this time? I’m going to say no, but they will definitely see some very wet and heavy flakes flying overnight Tuesday into Wednesday,” Braud said.

The area’s first snowfall follows an abnormally warm early November in New York and the entire Northeast. But temperatures in the region are quickly dropping to below average levels through the rest of the month.

“We’re gonna be flipping a drastic switch as we kind of go through the latter half of the month,” Braud said. “It’s going to be below average almost every single day.”
