Royal family releases new portrait for King Charles III’s 74th birthday

Happy birthday, King Charles III!
The royal family released a new portrait of the monarch in celebration of both his 74th birthday and newly appointed role as Park Ranger of Windsor Great Parks on Monday.
King Charles was photographed in a gray blazer and camel trousers while posing with his walking cane beneath a large tree as the sun glistened in the background.
“His Majesty The King has officially become Park Ranger of Windsor Great Park, seventy years after his father, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, was appointed to the post,” the official Instagram account of the British Royal Family captioned it.
The post explained that the “ranger of The Great Park” offers insight and guidance to the Deputy Ranger and his team on day-to-day upkeep of the country’s “oldest estates.”
“The role can be traced back to 1559, when Sir Henry Neville was appointed during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Over the last 460 years, the post has usually been held by the Sovereign or family members, including The King’s father and grandfather,” the caption continued.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was the longest serving Ranger of Windsor Great Park – holding the role from 1952 until his passing in 2021. His Royal Highness took an active role in overseeing developments, such as the reintroduction of 🦌 Red Deer into the Deer Park in 1979 and the development of 🏠 The Savill Garden Visitor Centre and ⛲ Virginia Water Pavilion.”
King Charles’ eldest son, Prince William, and wife Kate Middleton also took part in the birthday celebrations by sharing a photo of the royal on Twitter.
“Wishing a very happy birthday to His Majesty The King!” the Prince and Princess of Wales captioned the photo.
The royal family also shared a video of the King’s birthday celebrations from the palace grounds where a marching band performed “Happy Birthday.”
“🎶 Happy Birthday is played at today’s Changing the Guard Ceremony to mark His Majesty The King’s birthday,” the royal family captioned the post.
This is Charles’ first birthday without his mom, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September at the age of 96 after sitting on the throne for 70 years.
Over the weekend, Charles celebrated his first Remembrance Day without the late Queen. He was joined by wife Queen Consort Camilla as the country honored fallen soldiers who served the Commonwealth.
Prince William, Middleton, Prince Edward, Sophie and Princess Anne also attended events that paid tribute to the lost military members.
Notably absent were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who reside in California with their two kids: Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1.
There has been growing tension between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Charles after the couple resigned from their royal duties in 2020.
And while Markle attempted to bury the hatchet by requesting a private audience with the King, it seems no amends were made.
