Chiefs’ Chris Jones sends Twitter into tizzy over bottle moment

The Chiefs may have squeaked out a win on Sunday following a wild overtime finish against the Texans, but it’s an off-the-field moment that had much of Twitter talking.

As Kansas City trailed Houston midway through the second quarter, 14-7, cameras panned to Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones on the sidelines, where he was seen drinking from a green glass bottle. The moment, though brief, sent social media into a tizzy over the bottle’s contents, with some accounts speculating if Jones was “enjoying a cold one” from the bench.

Not the case, however, as Jones was sipping water out of what appeared to be a Mountain Valley Spring Water bottle, as some fans pointed out on Twitter.

The Chiefs and Texans traded leads throughout the second half and remained tied, 24-24, at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

Although the Chiefs failed to produce points on their first possession, defensive end Frank Clark forced a Texans fumble that was recovered by linebacker Willie Gay. Running back Jerick McKinnon then scored the game-winning touchdown to put Kansas City on top, 30-24.

With Sunday’s win over the Texans, the Chiefs clinched their seventh consecutive AFC West title. They’ll host the Seahawks on Saturday before wrapping up the regular season with two divisional showdowns against the Broncos and Raiders, respectively.
