Where to Stream ‘Knives Out’ Before Watching ‘Glass Onion’ on Netflix

Do you need to stream Knives Out before watching Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery? Not exactly, as the two movies are standalones, along with the forthcoming threequel. However, these two make for a solid double feature.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, both movies follow the exploits of the beloved detective, Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig, and are certified crowd pleasers. The first installment follows Benoit while he investigates the Thrombey family after the death of their wealthy patriarch, Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer), on the night of his 85th birthday party.

The second movie abandons the cold Massachusetts weather for the sunny islands of Greece as the private investigator is invited to a murder mystery party for the billionaire tech bro, Miles Bron (Edward Norton).

The original movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette.

The sequel also has an all-star cast including Janelle Monáe, Kathyrn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline.

Back in September, Puck News reported that Netflix “desperately wants to license the original Knives Out to stream in the U.S. when the sequel drops in December, but Lionsgate C.E.O. Jon Feltheimer, still stung by losing the franchise, isn’t exactly being helpful in making that happen.”

The original movie earned $312.9 million of its $40 million budget in the box office from a theatrical release by Lionsgate and while the studio greenlit a sequel, Johnson was poached by Netflix, who paid $469 million for the rights to two standalone sequels, reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The deal allowed Johnson and Craig to reportedly walk away with an upward of $100 million each.
