Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews Ring in the New Year on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ by Immediately Devolving Into Uncontrollable Laughter

Two weeks without new episodes of The Drew Barrymore Show is like a year without rain. Luckily, Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews were back to their typical antics today as they cranked out some cringe-worthy (but pretty impressive) puns while serving the news “sunny-side up.”

The duo shared one particular headline in which a college student wasn’t allowed to bring her pet fish onto a flight. As a result, the customer service representative at the airport offered to fish-sit until she returned for school in the fall semester.

Barrymore explained, “19-year-old Kira Rumfola said that she had flown with her betta fish Theo on other airlines but learned that Southwest only allows small dogs and cats when she was already at check-in. I am surprised to hear this about Southwest. I feel like — have you ever been on a Southwest flight? It’s pretty ‘party central.’”

Mathews added, “Yeah. But I honestly have never asked myself, ‘Can I take a fish on a plane?’ Just never thought about it.”

However, according to Barrymore, it all went “swimmingly,” and Rumfola thanked the airline worker with “a store gift card and some candies.” The talk show host then joked, “I guess it doesn’t get betta than that,” a pun that made Mathews visibly cringe.

“Oh, Drew, oh no,” the co-host, who is known for his quick-witted puns, said, to which Barrymore replied, “Oh, god! I got a no from Rossy on the pun.”

But they weren’t finished there!

As Barrymore kicked her feet up on the desk, Mathews quipped, “I don’t see what the big deal is, she just wanted to sit with her best fin,” prompting the duo to break out into laughter.

While Mathews wiped the tears from his eyes, he added, “So stupid. Oh, god.”

We can only hope that the rest of 2023 is filled with plenty of puns from our favorite co-hosting duo!

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays at 9:30 a.m. ET.
