Joy Behar Recalls ‘GMA’ Taking Her to Chippendales After Getting Fired on ‘The View’: “Who Doesn’t Like to Watch a Bunch of Greasy Guys?”

Have plastic-penis-wielding, strip club-induced bachelor/bachelorette parties officially met their demise? According to a survey presented on today’s episode of The View — during which Whoopi Goldberg could hardly contain her laughter — it is possible. But what was even more surprising was Joy Behar‘s confession about her “greasy” send-off after getting fired from Good Morning America over 40 years ago.
Goldberg, who had to stop and start over to compose herself as she read off the Hot Topic segment, informed the panel that a recent survey claims that people would rather chill out before their wedding than get “wild at a strip club,” to which Behar quipped, “So no more strip clubs. There goes my backup career plan.”
The host then revealed that when she had gotten fired from Good Morning America in 1982 — one of the “many times” she was fired — they took her to her own bachelorette party of sorts at Chippendales. She joked that it was “their reward for firing me.”
“Who doesn’t like to watch a bunch of greasy guys and put money in their crotch practically?” she asked. “It’s not the classiest thing to do.”
Meanwhile, Alyssa Farah Griffin said she doesn’t mind if her husband attends a bachelor party with strippers. And Sunny Hostin even admitted to having a sexy cop show up to her own.
As for Sara Haines, she believes the type of party people have depends on their age — even going as far as to confuse her fellow co-hosts by mentioning some of the NSFW accessories often worn at these types of celebrations.
“Where I come from, you get married at 23 [or] 24, and I think a lot of people fall into the traditions of the penis necklaces,” she said, before Hostin cut her off and asked her to clarify what she meant by “penis necklaces.”
“Oh my god, my mom was in one at my sister’s wedding, I can’t unsee that picture,” Haines replied, while Goldberg pretended to reach into her pocket and said, “It’s like this one! Oh, I forgot we were on television.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
