Best for Same-Day or Next-Day Delivery: UrbanStems

A side by side of two bouquets
The Juliet looked just as charming in the photo as it does in real life, vase and all!
Left: UrbanStems, Right: Sophie Cannon

UrbanStems brings the flower farm to your door, and in no time at all.

The flower company prides itself on having fresh, seasonal flowers sent straight from the farm to your doorstep in a matter of hours or days — not weeks like some companies. Since bouquets change with the seasons and what is currently growing on partner farms, the seasonal arrangements are always perfectly bright and fresh when they arrive at your home.

A side by side of flowers in a box
I loved the way these flowers were packaged, making sure no stem or leaf got bent.
Sophie Cannon

I ordered one of the bestselling arrangements, The Juliet, pictured above in its full glory. It came in a beautiful box with a ribbon handle, all wrapped up so that it wouldn’t get banged up in transit. I also loved the note that came with it, along with care instructions, a vase and nutrients to pour into the water. They required a little trim to fit nicely in the vase, but once spruced up, they looked exactly like the photo online, colors and freshness included.

Pros:

  • Flowers were easy to order online and schedule for delivery
  • The box was great for gifting, as well as protecting the flowers
  • Flowers came in a vase, wrapped in a rubber band and included care instructions and a nutrient packet
  • Flowers look exactly as they are on the site
  • Same day and next day delivery is easy to navigate to on the site, accurate delivery time
  • Other options include plants, dried flowers and gifts

Cons:

  • No option to filter by pet-safe bouquets

A side by side of flowers
Even though each bouquet is unique, I was still so surprised by how vivid my arrangement was. Can you even tell which is mine and which is from the website?
Left: 1-800-Flowers, Right: Sophie Cannon

For the best selection of blooms, we’ve got the number for you.

1-800-Flowers really does it all, with options for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, sympathy and more. Plus, they also offer plants of every kind, gift baskets, food and wine bundles and other trinkets to send to loved ones.

Back to the blooms at hand, since I have a pet at home (a cat that sometimes likes to nibble at my flowers) I opted for the One of a Kind Bouquet, which actually is set up through local florists in your area to curate a unique bouquet with the freshest, in-season flowers. I added a special note about wanting a pet-safe bundle with more than just roses and then about three days later a rainbow of petals and greenery appeared!

My flowers were also hand-delivered, a nice touch especially given the size of the ginormous arrangement. I received the Premium size, but I loved that there were options that ranged from small all the way up for most arrangements.

Sophie Cannon

Pros:

  • A huge selection of flowers, plants, gifts, food and more
  • Sort by flower type or occasion to help narrow it down
  • Options for arrangement sizes from small to premium
  • Option for same day delivery, as well as a scheduled one
  • One of a Kind bouquet options, curated by local florists based on your zip code, with the freshest blooms
  • Flowers arrived packed in a cardboard base and wrapped in plastic and tissue paper for a safe delivery — no bent or bruised flowers

Cons:

  • No option to filter by pet-safe bouquets

Best occasion flowers: FTD

Two bouquets of roses
Roses are red, leaving my house makes me blue, that’s why you should get flowers delivered to you!
Left: FTD, Right: Sophie Cannon

For those that don’t know, FTD stands for Flowers to Door, which is exactly what I got with my delivery of fresh red roses. I ordered the stunning Scarlet Rendezvous Bouquet and Candle Set, in part because they are perfect for Valentine’s Day and also in part because roses are a great pet-safe option. Note — they do not have a pet-safe filter on their flowers, but do have one for their plant delivery options and a handy guide for what blooms you can buy.

Aside from Valentine’s Day, FTD really has a flower for every occasion including the typical birthday and condolence flowers but also as specific as arrangements for an engagement, a religious event and the Lunar New Year to name a few.

My roses were hand-delivered to my door, alongside a little black bag. The roses themselves were pretty long, and so I did have to get out my sheers and give them a trim, but the actual blooms were vibrant and fresh, just like the photo. The candle in the bag was not like the two pictured, but was honestly a fun surprise, as I received a larger, ceramic candle with a lid that smelled of sage and eucalyptus.

Red roses
Before I trimmed the stems, the roses were a bit too tall for the beautiful vase it came with, but once cut to size, I still had a stunning and full bouquet.
Sophie Cannon

Pros:

  • Flowers for every occasion, and really, every one
  • The flowers can be hand-delivered to ensure a safe delivery
  • Flowers come with nutrient packet, wrapped in cellophane and with a vase
  • Options to add on more gifts, like candles, food and more
  • Options to shop for plants (pet-safe), gifts, food and wine, too
  • Same-day delivery options as well

Cons:

  • You do need to trim the stems quite a bit
  • The candle was not the one described on the website (but honestly I liked mine better
  • No option to filter by pet-safe bouquets

A side by side of flowers
This was the pop of pink I needed in my life, with fresh sprigs of green and a succulent, too.
Left: For You Flowers; Right: Sophie Cannon

Cards are so 2022. Show them you care with a bouquet from From You Flowers in 2023

We love this service for a lot of reasons, including the fun FaceVase feature to add a favorite photo to the FaceVase page, as well as same-day delivery on eligible arrangements and the great selection. We also love that these blooms, while fresh and stunning, can come on a budget, with a large sale section to browse. Shop here for all sale flowers, or filter by price for as low as under $30 a bunch!

Since it was time to treat ourselves, I ordered the Pink Rose Succulent Garden, as I loved the idea of a succulent in my bouquet and the flowers were all pet-safe (although there is not a filter on site for pet safe unfortunately!) I chose my desired day for delivery and it arrived right on schedule, wrapped in cellophane and complete with a note and care instructions. I also noticed that the succulent was actually fully potted in a clear vessel, which looked great in the bouquet and helped it last super long!

Pink flowers in a vase
The arrangement was super vivid, matching the product photo exactly. They also came with a gift note, perfect for sending to a loved one.
Sophie Cannon

Pros:

  • Lots of variety in flowers, arrangement and occasions
  • A huge array of sale flowers, with some under $30 for stunning arrangements
  • Ability to choose same-day delivery or schedule
  • Flowers came exactly as pictured in the description
  • Succulents came in the bouquet with their own vessel and potting soil — lasted a very long time!
  • Flowers came wrapped in cellophane with a note

Cons:

  • No option to filter by pet-safe bouquets

Best subscription service: BloomsyBox

Flowers side by side
The bright orange hues were almost as vivid as on the site, with pops of yellow and green in the mix, too.
Left: BloomsyBox, Right: Victoria Giardina

Who needs an occasion to send flowers?

Give the gift that keeps on giving, by sending a subscription for fresh flowers to a loved one. BloomsyBox makes it incredibly easy to do just that, with prepaid plans perfect for every budget and timeline. There is also a section for pet-safe flowers, so don’t worry about sending these as a gift to those that have cats and dogs at home!

Choose between a month-to-month, three-month, six-month, or a full-year pre-paid plan, and then pick which bunch you like the best. Each bouquet ranges from 18 to 20 stems all the way up to a 27 to 32 stem premium bundle, arriving at their door hassle-free.

Upon ordering our BloomsyBox, we knew we were going to be colored impressed. Not only did the brand send the most beautiful, colorful blooms, but it was shipped with meticulous care — a standout component that set the brand apart from others.

Two bouquets of flowers
The left shows just how much care went into the packaging of the blooms, with flower hair nets! The right shows the finished product, after trimming.
Victoria Giardina

Namely, our bouquet (the “Celebration Bouquet,” to be exact) was clad with secure plastic loops, rubber bands and even a protective, hairnet-like covering on more delicate flowers. Flowers with thicker stems shipped with a plastic tubular covering as well, which was appreciated. That said, the entire bouquet shipped fresh, with all flowers perfectly intact with bright green leaves

Overall, they remained fresh for days on end — with previous shipments lasting for about a week and a half to two weeks — so, needless to say, we’ll be resorting to the brand time and again.

Pros:

  • Some of the most gorgeous and freshest blooms we’ve ever had delivered
  • Shipped with precise care and protective packaging
  • Can be ordered on a subscription bases, with the most in-season blooms sent out on a cadence of your choosing — also makes for a great gift
  • Has an on-site section for pet-safe flowers

Cons:

  • The thick stems made it difficult to trim (to fit in a certain vase), though not a deal-breaker (this could have simply been the bouquet chosen and/or the vase)

Other best flower delivery services we reviewed in 2023:

1. Venus ET Fleur

A side by side of white roses
If you can believe it, my flowers on the right are over six months old, and still almost identical to the picture on the website!
Left: Venus ET Fleur, Right: Sophie Cannon

Why give a gift that only lasts a few weeks, when your bouquet can last up to a year?

The preserved rose arrangements from Venus ET Fleur are not only stunning but are also made to last for months — or even years — at a time. Made from real roses, they are preserved and arranged in a ceramic vase, serving as the perfect centerpiece and conversation starter in any room.

I am a sucker for white roses, but one thing that I dislike is a few days after I buy them, the crisp white color turns yellow and then brown, forcing me to throw them out earlier than I want. This is no longer an issue, as I have now owned my Venus ET Fleur roses for over six months, and they are as clean and white as they were when I first got them, and even still smell good, too!

Pros:

  • The roses really do last, without wilting or browning for a year (sometimes longer)
  • They still smell great, despite being preserved and not fresh from the store
  • Wide assortment of colors, as well as fun patterns and decorative vessels and vases to choose from
  • Make for great gifts
  • Pet safe

Cons:

  • On the pricy side
  • Limited selection of flowers; roses are most popular

2. Bouqs

A side by side of tulips
The stunning pink and purple bouquet came with so many stems, I needed to split it between two vases!
Left: Bouqs; Right: Sophie Cannon

A short name with a large variety of flowers to choose from, Bouqs is perfect for those who always have a bunch in their home and love to send to others as well. Notably, it’s great for same-day delivery, depending on your area.

The flower service not only has a la carte options for bouquets, but also a subscription service that trims the price and maximizes the blooming benefits. Starting at just $36 per month, a Bouqs subscription will get you 30% off and free shipping on every order, plus a $10 credit on your account every month. With access to exclusive curated collections, never again will you send a boring bouquet.

I ordered the Heartfelt, which was appropriate for Valentine’s Day but also any occasion to spread some love. Upon arrival, I was shocked by how many stems came in my box, so many that I needed to grab another vase from my cabinet! They also arrived not-yet-bloomed, which I honestly prefer so that they last longer in my home, as opposed to wilting after a day or so.

Two vases of pink and purple flowers
I loved the gold vase sent by Bouqs, which was way better than the one I needed to dig out for the extra stems — not a bad problem to have at all!
Bouqs

Pros:

  • Came with an abundance of flowers! So many I could gift some to a friend and still have a full bouquet
  • Flowers came not yet fully bloomed, to prolong the shelf-life at home
  • Flowers came packaged tightly in the box, with rubber bands and cellophane to keep everything neat
  • Colors looked exactly like what I ordered online

Cons:

  • You may get more flowers than what fits in the vase (not really a con!)
  • No option to sort by pet-safe arrangements

3. Teleflora

Two flower bouquets
Aside from the colors, the vase, fullness and even the succulent was the exact same as the photo on the site.
Left: Teleflora, Right: Sophie Cannon

Add a personal touch to your bouquets with the florists at Teleflora. Each bundle is arranged by hand and designed by local florists (depending on your location) so every bunch feels unique. Because they can be local, also keep an eye out for same-day delivery options and other perks you don’t get elsewhere.

I was so excited about this aspect of the delivery since I have always wanted to discover new florists in Brooklyn but didn’t know where to start. The arrangement, sure enough, was beautiful, complete and full of fresh and vibrant blooms, plus a succulent for good measure. The Marvelous Mosaic Bouquet was also pet-safe by request, which I appreciated, although there isn’t an option on-site to sort by these.

The delivery itself was seamless, and upon my return home from work, I found the stunning mosaic vase carefully wrapped in cardboard and the flowers in cellophane for safe transit. The flowers were also stuck in foam, as opposed to free-floating in water, so the bouquet stayed absolutely perfect and still is while sitting in my bedroom.

A bouquet
The wrapping was also pretty stunning, with white tissue and cellophane, plus a cardboard protective ring around the vase.
Sophie Cannon

Pros:

  • The flowers came on the day that I ordered them, with options for same-day delivery as well
  • Flowers were packaged well, in cardboard to protect the vase and with tissue and cellophane
  • The vase was stunning! I will be saving it for the future
  • Lots of great options for occasion flowers, as well as flower type and color
  • There is a button on-site to help track your order
  • Options for flowers on sale, with Deal of the Day.

Cons:

  • No option to sort by pet-safe blooms
  • Colors may vary (up to your local florist!)

4. The Sill

Two white orchids
The elegant orchids came perfectly packaged, with some blooms and some buds to look forward to.
Left: The Sill; Right: Barret Wertz

The orchid has long been the flower that sets itself apart from the rest. You don’t send a bouquet of orchids — you send the whole plant, roots and all. Because of this, you can’t skimp on an orchid. If the plant isn’t quality, it won’t be en route to anyone.

I happened to meet the UPS delivery driver as he was dropping this off, so I opened it immediately in order to make sure I didn’t contribute to any issues, should there be any. Good for me, there really weren’t. The Phalaenopsis orchid was packed perfectly. Upon opening, dense yet lightweight matting surrounded the bubble-wrapped beauty. If I were a less patient man, I could see myself damaging the orchid due to how secure the packaging was. Between the bubble wrap fitting to the plant’s exact dimensions, the rubber bands securing each layer of bubble and cellophane wrapping, plus the separately wrapped base of the planter — this was a very well-safeguarded plant.

The reveal of the beautiful, delicate blooms was well worth the effort. Although not in a full flourish as the image on the website suggests, the buds look primed to prosper with the right patience and persistence. To add eco-elegance to such a pretty plant, I was able to choose an upcycled planter. According to the website, upcycled planters are made from agricultural by-products and natural fibers and finished with a non-toxic, formaldehyde-free resin.

A box of orchids
The packing was pretty hardcore, with an external layer of foam plus bubble wrap around the vase and stems of the delicate flowers.
Barret Wertz

Pros:

  • Orchids are offered in various colors and even in a life-life faux option.
  • Delivery was prompt and arrived when the tracking said.
  • The packaging was second to none, ensuring the delicate stems and blooms were completely intact, less one pedal.
  • There was a decent planter variety, so I’m not stuck with a beautiful orchid in an ugly pot.
  • These orchids are pet-friendly, but if I wasn’t sure, it was very clearly noted in the photo.
  • Unlike a lot of the other plants offered on the site, the orchid doesn’t need to be repotted upon arrival, which is important if this is a gift.
  • The Sill also offers a selection of cut, dried, and faux bouquets.

Cons:

  • “Flowers” is not its own option on the home page, so finding the limited options is a little tricky.
  • At the time of order, there were not many flowering plants offered.

5. POMP Flowers

A side by side of yellow flowers
My roommate actually unboxed these for me, so I didn’t get the perfect picture, BUT I did get perfect yellow roses that were insanely bright and beautiful!
Left: POMP, Right: Sophie Cannon

These beautiful blooms deserve all the pomp and circumstances, no matter the celebration! I actually received these flowers twice; once as an introduction to the brand and another time as part of a fun mailer for Hanky Panky underwear, in which one of the roses was, in fact, a pair of panties rolled to look like a rose.

In both circumstances, the flowers were insanely fresh and bright, and the first delivery even came with a branded set of flower sheers so that I could trim my bouquet when it arrived — a wonderful touch.

The other bouquet was wrapped in tissue and paper, tied up in a farmer’s market style that added to the charm. This was part of a fun activation in New York City, with flowers and underwear for all.

Pros:

  • Their roses are some of the best, shipped perfectly
  • The flowers are vibrant colors, especially the bright yellow
  • The vase was great quality and huge — will re-use again
  • The added gift of flower sheers was awesome and they are sharp and easy to use
  • Bouquets look creative and fun; boring roses
  • Next-day delivery available

Cons:

  • I forgot to take a photo of my Hanky Panky x POMP bouquet! *not a real con!
  • No ability to sort by pet-safe, but all roses are safe for both cats and dogs
